Morning March of Ducks!

After breakfast, we explored the hotel some more. They have a pool. Exercise room. Spa.
Had just enough time to head up stairs, pack the bag.
Watched the ducks come off the elevator and to the fountain!
Love the Peabody...crazy hotel with ducks.

Breakfast in Memphis

We had asked last night about the place to eat breakfast. We were told Miss Polly's. Most definitely a greasy spoon fabulous breakfast joint on Beale. The server was a character, loved it. Food was good. SJ and Sophia cleaned their plate!
It has definitely been fun to walk around downtown.

Up at Sunrise

We were treated to a spectacular sunrise over the city this morning. SJ will have to check out photos of it...he didn't make it up in time!
First thing...go check on the ducks. Still there. SJ said last night, "those kids in the window creep me out." Held for the morning too.
The ducks were still there, and had a surprise-an egg! More duck-stars to come.

Exploring Peabody

We explored every floor. The kids were amazed at the architectural details...ok the saw the ducks in the stain glass mural above the fountain.
The old time phones.
Sneaking a peek at the grand ballroom. Sophia immediately wanted a daddy daughter date night there.
Back in the room, the beds were extra comfy. More duck touches. SJ loved the duck shaped soap at bath time the most.

Back at Peabody

After our walk back to the hotel, we had drinks and ice cream in the lobby. There was a pianist playing all sorts of songs. She played Under the Sea...big hit. Old MacDonald. SJ picked a fish as his animal on the farm when it came to him! I think he threw her for a loop...but really who doesn't have a fish while doing this song!?
On the top floor, the ducks have a retreat. We rode the elevator(with an inlay marble duck on the floor) up to see it. Kids were amazed at the duck house!

Hitting the Town

Beale Street.
Fun with all the neon light signs. The smell of BBQ cooking in the air. Blues and jazz faintly playing or being played all around.
There was a street performer that did a gymnastics flip run that was worthy of the tip we placed in his bucket. I know I couldn't do that ever...but on asphalt!
We ate dinner at King's Palace Cafe because the caller guy showed us a kids menu. Food was good, but atmosphere was great. There was a blues guitarist playing while we ate. We all got up and danced to a few songs. We had the place to ourselves almost. SJ kept wanting to do the Tango...which is hard to do to blues, but we did it anyway!
After dinner, we walked the entire length of the street. Stopping occasionally to dance to the music. Sophia had a huge smile on her face the entire time. SJ was taking it all in...

Peabody Stay

We had a quick overnight in Memphis. We stayed at the historic Peabody Hotel! Arrived just in time to sit and see the ducks leave the fountain to go to their penthouse via elevator. Kids love the "duckstars"!
The hotel is beautiful in every detail. There are ducks everywhere. :)
Our room was on the 11th floor with magnificent views of the city.

Dance Camp

Sophia loved her dance camp at school last Friday! They performed at halftime of basketball game. I'm biased, but I think she did really well.

Quick Ark Trip

We drove to Arkansas over the MLK Jr. weekend to visit with the Shorts, and buy a boat from a guy in NW Arkansas. Always fun on the dam road. We had adventure hikes. Kids drove the tractor and looked for lost things. Great weekend. Loved seeing them and visiting the new house on the hill.

Sophia was not liking me taking photos...hee hee. I did it anyway!

Sophia Takes to Courts

Sophia decided she wanted to take tennis too. We jumped into the class following SJ's. She loved it.
