A Hiking We Go

"An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day."
Henry David Thoreau
Here at Smith Mountain Lake State Park there are so many
hiking trails cut through the woods.
Tammy, Sophia, Ali, Louie, & I went exploring today...
on and off the trails.
The original goal was to find a geocache that Tammy had seen.
It remained hidden, but we meandered through some
beautiful parts of the park.
Ali & Louie lead the way.
Dogwoods are blooming everywhere here.
I have to say, one of my favorite blooming trees.
(It's a nice treat to see so many because I missed
our front yard dogwood bloom this year.)
I'm a sucker for sparkly rocks.
Tons of them around the lake.
Cool stump that we came across with a rock
stuck in the roots!?
Beaver calling card
Pretty little fall down next to the lake shore.
I think Tammy called this a tobacco drying shed
abandoned for some time, really spooky.
Louie wasted no time in finding a napping spot
after keeping up with Ali...one can almost hear
the snoring...Zzzz.
Sophia fell asleep on the last bit of the hike...
after jabbering up a storm.
She slept until she hit the sheets...
then snapped back up as if to say,
"What's next?"
(see moth chasing next)
Reason she's in only diapers - tick check.
Thoreau wrote about the woods...
he left that small bit out.
These woods have ticks, just spray & check.
:)
