Weigh-in Day 2

Steve caught five fish that weighed 15-6! Moved him up & into 28th
place to fish again another day. Here's Soso's outfit for today. As
always, fabulous fun.

Breakfast

Sophia at Mayberry diner counter where we ate breakfast. Very cute
decorations inside! It's also a drive-in theater! Kinda 50's themed...

A.M. Photo Safari

Again...sucker for the dogwoods here.
But have I shown you the pink!?
I'm thinking that there will be one going into
our yard back home soon.
On to my wildlife shots...that are lame-o.
Squirrel
This was the second of a pair that ran out
in front of me at the state park.
Really...I'm digging deep people.
This is life I found in the wild...therefore...
There are a ton of OLD buildings all over the place.
Here are two that I pass on the way to the weigh-in site.

The Mayberry Diner AND Drive-in theater.
We would hit the week "Hannah Montana" is playing.
I've never been, so we might just go anyway!
You have to pay attention on these next two photos.
This is the highway that takes you to Kroger.
I saw this picturesque church on the hill...
white steeple cute traditional.
Thought I'd hit it on the way back by...
until I saw which road it's on.
Squint with me...
yes it does say "Highway 666".
I can't make this stuff up.

Day 2 Take-Off

49 degrees...we watched from the Jeep this morning. Steve is last
flight today. Looks like another beautiful day here. Big fish wishes
for Steve!!

A Hiking We Go

"An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day."
Henry David Thoreau
Here at Smith Mountain Lake State Park there are so many
hiking trails cut through the woods.
Tammy, Sophia, Ali, Louie, & I went exploring today...
on and off the trails.
The original goal was to find a geocache that Tammy had seen.
It remained hidden, but we meandered through some
beautiful parts of the park.
Ali & Louie lead the way.
Dogwoods are blooming everywhere here.
I have to say, one of my favorite blooming trees.
(It's a nice treat to see so many because I missed
our front yard dogwood bloom this year.)
I'm a sucker for sparkly rocks.
Tons of them around the lake.
Cool stump that we came across with a rock
stuck in the roots!?
Beaver calling card
Pretty little fall down next to the lake shore.
I think Tammy called this a tobacco drying shed
abandoned for some time, really spooky.
Louie wasted no time in finding a napping spot
after keeping up with Ali...one can almost hear
the snoring...Zzzz.
Sophia fell asleep on the last bit of the hike...
after jabbering up a storm.
She slept until she hit the sheets...
then snapped back up as if to say,
"What's next?"
(see moth chasing next)
Reason she's in only diapers - tick check.
Thoreau wrote about the woods...
he left that small bit out.
These woods have ticks, just spray & check.
:)

Moth Catching

After getting back from our hike, I spotted a moth
on the outside of the bus window.
The window is tinted, so I could snap away...
& the moth never moved
These are taken with macro
I snapped so many...then realized
someone else wanted in on the action.
A different objective, yet same fascination.
I think she wanted to taste it...
Yep...I see it. She was just checking to make sure
After chasing that elusive moth...
Soso crashes to dream of catching the moth.

Weigh-in

10 pounds 7 ounces!

He finished 78th for the day...

thinking big fish tomorrow!!
