05/16/2015 the afternoon...paydirt!
We had been bear cruising Pilgrim Rd for a while. Saw the marmots...again. Stopped and looked at the flowers. Had given up mostly, on our way back to the camper when boom. Cars. Pulled over and parked on he road. Good indicator too is what we called the "tripod people". Big lens cameras on big serious tripods. When you see those out, look in the direction they all will be pointed!
We had both the cars and tripod people. SK pulled over. Jumped out grabbing SJ to run up and get the word. Meaning animal they were stalking-elk, bison, bear etc.
I saw the body language of a tripod person we nicknamed "bearman" tense and get serious looking through the lens. I grabbed my camera and Soso and jumped out in the road. I could hear the whisper hushed exclamations: "BEAR!" "THERE SHE IS!" "GOING RIGHT!" "GRIZZLY"
I snapped a few photos. So excited, I could hardly hold the camera steady or breathe!
This wasn't our expected Blondie, but another female grizzly bear. We jumped in the truck and took turns behind the camera snapping. She walked up the creek. Crossed the road. Went into a field towards some elk. She never attacked the adult elks. Guess she was looking for a baby to eat.
Good times. And a GRIZZLY out of the gate day one! High five team Kennedy!
Sunset was beautiful cloudy experience, but end to a fabulous first day!
