Dinner Stop!

We passed back through the little town of Wiscasset, ME. After seeing the line around the block for Red's Eats on Sunday, we had to stop to see what all the fuss was about. Red's is a tiny tiny shack on the corner of downtown area.
Lobster Roll. The best in Maine. Steve ate one for the team...he said it was good! It looked like two lobsters' meat worth shoved barely in a bun, little mayo, little butter. Sophia, SJ and I think they make an awesome grilled cheese & fries!
It's also not THAT cold. It's definite light jacket...Soso just likes to wear her hood up!

Acadia

Got up this morning, had breakfast at our hotel...

then walked to the square in the middle of Bar Harbor

named the Village Green.

Sophia with her glasses on, ready!
Steve said about this moment,
"Most people stop to smell the roses."
Sophia likes to make "wishes"...
We made it in plenty of time to catch
the shuttle bus into Acadia National Park.
SJ was waving "hi" with huge
smiles to everyone on the bus.

First stop Thunder Hole

After spending way too much time waiting on

the shuttle...when we did catch one, we

headed back to our hotel to regroup!

The bus was zipping past half

of the stuff we wanted to see!

Quick change of outfits for Soso and SK,

we headed back out in our truck to the park.

Steve was wearing jeans-too hot for that.

Sophia was tripping on her dress hem while trying to hike.

Don't ask.

I tried to explain it wouldn't work...

Different views along the way

Bass Harbor Lighthouse
the crammed viewing deck.

As we were leaving we saw the trail for a different

view of the light...

kids were already strapped in their car seats.
Save it for next trip!

View on the drive up Cadillac Mountain

Bar Harbor from the summit of Cadillac Mountain.

(Please notice the tiny cruise ship)

The highest point on the Atlantic Coast

1,530 feet.

If so inclined, you can be the first person

in the US to see the sunrise from up on the mountain.

We did it the first trip up.

Guide Soso with her map...

"like Jake and the Neverland Pirates, to find treasure!"

It's a Disney Junior cartoon about pirates...

with treasure maps.

This was a very cute moment.

Sophia climbed part of the mountain by herself.

Upon reaching the top, she flung her arms out.

She held them out and embraced the wind...

as if she were going to take flight like a bird.

Smiling.

I swelled with pride at my little outdoors man.

She gets it.

She loves it.

Cadillac is a huge chunk of smooth granite

which makes for a fun and easy climb.

View of a lighthouse...
can't remember the name right off hand...

Self timer group shot along the paved trail.

Driving back down, we saw this crazy seagull.

He never moved even when our diesel pulled up

beside him! Made for a great picture.

Down in the Bar Harbor area.

As we were losing light, the kids were losing patience. A few more stolen views of the islands and sea.
Our last day on Mount Desert Island.

We headed back to the hotel.

Grabbed dinner and hit the pillow!

Lunch!

A roadside lobster stand, named Sprague's, in Wiscasset, ME. Soso and SJ's expressions were hilarious when Steve plopped that fresh steaming hot lobster down on the table...and ate it! Soso came and sat next to me! SJ tasted it...but spit it out. The hotdog and chicken fingers were fabulous! $10 lobster, hot fresh now!

Road Not Taken

We are in definite meander mode. Driving up US Hwy 1 to Bar Harbor. There are a few antique and plain JUNK stores along the way...so we stop! Steve just scored a resin headed small hammer, Klein linesman pliers, and V block(whatever that is...) for pennies at Ed's Stuff! I personally would modify the name slightly. It was filled with tools...and just piles of...stuff. Ed's Hoarder Hell. :)
It's a fun adventure!

First Full Day in Maine

This was the beach across the street from our hotel last night.

It's a foggy beautiful dark grey fine sand beach

with the occasional pebble or large boulder!

Our motel.

Sophia enjoyed the indoor pool swim before bed.

We did too...knocked both of them out!

We walked across the street to the restaurant
to eat breakfast.
Watching the tide roll in as the sun rises.

Catching a ride on daddy's shoulders
and watching the birds on the beach.

The view of the Nubble Lighthouse from the motel.
Dense fog in the early morning.

Once we checked out, we hit the road.
Chasing down the distant lighthouse,
led us here.

SJ was sleeping already, so I hung close to the truck.
Steve took Soso down to the water.
The light is on an island, no access for us!

Somewhere on the road...
Steve took this picture for me while I drove.

I love all the lobster buoys!

Seals playing in the surf.

Beautiful wild flowers are everywhere.
Next stop:

Kennebunkport Beach, ME

SJ was in the zone...
walking like crazy chasing the gulls.

Sophia and SJ chase together.

Sophia running in the sand

Loved the playground right next to the beach!

Being Kennedy's we had to

sniff out downtown.

Here is a glimpse to the traffic on the weekend, in Kennedbunk. Insane.
Bumper to bumper...but we had to check it out.
