Acadia

Got up this morning, had breakfast at our hotel...

then walked to the square in the middle of Bar Harbor

named the Village Green.

Sophia with her glasses on, ready!
Steve said about this moment,
"Most people stop to smell the roses."
Sophia likes to make "wishes"...
We made it in plenty of time to catch
the shuttle bus into Acadia National Park.
SJ was waving "hi" with huge
smiles to everyone on the bus.

First stop Thunder Hole

After spending way too much time waiting on

the shuttle...when we did catch one, we

headed back to our hotel to regroup!

The bus was zipping past half

of the stuff we wanted to see!

Quick change of outfits for Soso and SK,

we headed back out in our truck to the park.

Steve was wearing jeans-too hot for that.

Sophia was tripping on her dress hem while trying to hike.

Don't ask.

I tried to explain it wouldn't work...

Different views along the way

Bass Harbor Lighthouse
the crammed viewing deck.

As we were leaving we saw the trail for a different

view of the light...

kids were already strapped in their car seats.
Save it for next trip!

View on the drive up Cadillac Mountain

Bar Harbor from the summit of Cadillac Mountain.

(Please notice the tiny cruise ship)

The highest point on the Atlantic Coast

1,530 feet.

If so inclined, you can be the first person

in the US to see the sunrise from up on the mountain.

We did it the first trip up.

Guide Soso with her map...

"like Jake and the Neverland Pirates, to find treasure!"

It's a Disney Junior cartoon about pirates...

with treasure maps.

This was a very cute moment.

Sophia climbed part of the mountain by herself.

Upon reaching the top, she flung her arms out.

She held them out and embraced the wind...

as if she were going to take flight like a bird.

Smiling.

I swelled with pride at my little outdoors man.

She gets it.

She loves it.

Cadillac is a huge chunk of smooth granite

which makes for a fun and easy climb.

View of a lighthouse...
can't remember the name right off hand...

Self timer group shot along the paved trail.

Driving back down, we saw this crazy seagull.

He never moved even when our diesel pulled up

beside him! Made for a great picture.

Down in the Bar Harbor area.

As we were losing light, the kids were losing patience. A few more stolen views of the islands and sea.
Our last day on Mount Desert Island.

We headed back to the hotel.

Grabbed dinner and hit the pillow!

You didn't really think the bus would travel at Kennedy speed, did you?
